A devastatingly cute photo of baby Morpheus. He is almost a month old in this photo.

I had planned to keep only one puppy from this litter, but Morpheus had other plans. First, he started grinning. Now several pups in this litter have followed in their mom's pawsteps and grin, but Morpheus REALLY grins. He grins to greet me, he grins to "talk" to me, and he grins when he is embarrassed. He is totally adorable. Second, I adore this fellow's personality. He is laid back, but not lazy; self-assured, yet sensitive; and intelligent, but unassuming. Third, it suddenly occurred to me that Sartre was now a veteran. I like to have a male around but I knew I would not be breeding again for quite a number of years. I could see that I might end up without a male before I was ready for another dog. So, that is how I convinced myself to keep this charming fellow.
However, as things would have it, I have not been able to find a home for Morpheus' sister, Lightning. I cannot believe I bred a bitch of her quality and breeding her is the only way I could ever hope to own a bitch of her caliber. My plan had been to share her with someone who either was starting in the breed and wanted an exciting bitch to show and breed from or with someone who would be able to do much more with her than I ever will. Since I can't keep three pups forever and since I really want this girl shown, I have decided to do the selfish thing and keep her myself. Which means Morpheus needs a home. This is a hard decision to make, Morpheus is so darling. I cannot express enough how much I love this dog, but one of the rules I have set for myself is "no more than five dogs at a time." So that is that.
As hard as it was to give up this dog, Fate smiled upon Morpheus and me and brought Louise and Mimi Hotchkiss to us. Morpheus is one lucky dog to have two wonderful people to accept him into their family. So, Morpheus, aka. Tofu Boy, is going where it seems Fate meant him to be; basking peacefully in the south California sun. I hope he brings Louise and Mimi many years of joy.

Not only is Tofu Boy in California, but he lives in a garden: with squirrels. Morpheus' yard provides a beautiful setting for a borzoi. Actually, this sort of reminds me of my Grandmother's backyard. What a pleasant place to hang out.
|
Come play with me!
Here is Morpheus trying to entice his siblings to play late on a day in early October.

On June 28, 2007 my part of San Antonio got four inches of rain in about an hour and a half. Everything was a mess, but the dogs were having a blast. In fact we had the wettest period from January to July in history. This one absolutely went down in the record books. I was not used to this much rain in the summer. The pups thought it was great, however.
|
Why is it that squirrels have to stay so high in the trees? But then, I suppose that "hard to get" aspect of their being is one reason why squirrels are so enticing. They sure do make a dog's life much more interesting.
|
Mom, why are you taking my picture again? Can't a dog have any privacy?
|
Maybe, just maybe, if I get up here I could get that squirrel!
|
Once upon a time the dogs, including Morpheus, were clean and dry. That was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Or at least it seemed this way during the summer. It rained so much and so often that the pups were never clean. What a mess that was!
|
I seldom have my camera when Morpheus is grinning, but I managed to capture his happy grin in this photo. Morpheus just does not take himself seriouisly.

Louise with Morpheus outside the lovely bed and breakfast where she and Mimi stayed while in San Antonio. Little did Morpheus know, he was about to embark on the longest journey of his life. When one has lived with a dog for almost two years, it is really hard to say goodbye. The only thing that makes it possible is knowing he is going to a wonderful home where he will be cherished. What a lucky dog Morpheus is!

Morpheus is accompanying Louise to the Doughnut Shop in this photo. Gee, Nancy never took me to get doughnuts! Maybe that long car ride was worth it after all!
