It is amazing how good a relationship with a dog gets after 8 years or so. By that time, both parties know each other well and all the routines are well engrained. Sartre took his job as rule maker and protector very seriously. If I was unpacking things, Sartre took it upon himself to rest near any items I left untended to make sure nothing happened to them. He always had to check into what I was doing to make sure all was alright. When he was a puppy, Sartre would grab the hose and help me pull it when I moved it from one place to another in my yard. What an uncommon dog you were, Sartre.

Sart

Sartre is a happy boy and you can see that in his face in this photo. Sartre is two months short of his 10th birthday in this photo.

Sart gets his toy

Sartre and I love to play fetch. This was something I worked on quite a bit when he was a youngster. He still enjoys it, though he thinks that the game is only for him to play. Everyone respects this. Even Booker won't go for a thrown toy until Sartre has tired of the game. Photo taken on January 1, 2009.

Unfortunately I got a bit of glare on this photo since I was trying to take this picture facing the evening sun, but I could not let this photo go. This photo was taken 14 days before his eleventh birthday. You're looking good Mr. Sart!

Please forgive me as I endulge in more photos of Sartre playing fetch. It always warms my heart to see him run enthusiastically after his toy. He may be getting a bit stiff, but he still has the same style he always had.
