"Morpheus Lompoc 2008"
Mimi and Louise lured me to California, someplace I had never been before. While visiting, I got to show Morpheus at the shows in Lompoc. What an honor! I had heard of the Sighthound Specialty at Lompoc for years, but now that I have been there I can understand what people are talking about. The shows are held in a beautiful park that is cooled by the breeze that comes off the ocean. All the borzoi there had an excellent chance to strut their stuff due to the huge ring. We all had a great time at the show and I had a wonderful time visiting the Hotchkiss family. What a wonderful trip.

Louise took this photo of Morph and me in the ring.
Usually, Mimi is behind the camera taking all the photos, but this time she got to be in a photo with her mom, Louise. This photo was taken at the park in Lompoc where the show was held.
Obviously, Morpheus is enjoying himself. Mimi took this cute picture of Morpheus for me.
Even though it is a bit blurry, I think this is a pretty good picture of Morpheus in the ring. We had an excellent vantagepoint for watching the judging.

A final photo from the park in Lompoc of Louise, Morpheus, and me.

After we finished showing on Saturday, we went to the lure course. We were there in time to watch the last few runs of the Greyhound specialty trial. Much to my surprise and delight Dan and Margaret were there. So of course we had to get photos. Morpheus grins a lot. In fact, if you do it right, you can get him to grin at you. So while we were waiting for our chance to practice, Dan Gauss tried to get some photos of Morpheus grinning. In this photo Morpheus looks really happy, but only has a tiny grin on his face. It is a great shot of Morph and Mimi, though. Photo by Shot on Site.

After a bunch of tries, Dan was able to get this picture of me and Morpheus grinning. You can see his nose wrinkled up as he dips his head shyly. Photo by Shot on Site.
The last time I had tried to get Morpheus to chase the lure he was filled with so much disgust by the very thought of the activity that spectators coined the name "Tofu Boy." Here I am standing in the field getting ready to let go of Morpheus when the lure starts and I have no idea what he was going to do. All the rest of his littermates ran by this time, but would Morph? |
Will wonders never cease? Look! Morph is actually NOT running away from the lure. In fact, he is starting to run after it! Photo by Shot on Site.
Wow! Morpheus not only started to run after the lure, he kept running after the lure! But look Morph, you've got to put your head down if you want to run really fast. Photo by Shot on Site.
In fact, Morpheus was having so much fun, he did not want to come back to me. The wonderful lure operator ran the lure around again after it was obvious what was going on and this time Morpheus got serious. Photo by Shot on Site.
This experience really changed Morpheus' mind about chasing plastic bags. He suddenly realized how much fun running after stuff can be for a borzoi! Go Morph, go! Photo by Shot on Site.
And finally, after a long trip, Morpheus back at home communing with Mimi.
